My Mother Mary Martha Hector B. 1903 in Weymouth, England . Gave me a Book For Safe Keeping Many years ago
, I never really looked at it or thought about it until after her death in 1970, even then it just sat in our bookshelf as a memento from my Mother I did look at the Book ( A Souvenir of South Australia ) it is a Tourist Book of Photo's of the Central State .Inside on the Fly leaf is the hand written Inscription " Mary Hector , Given to her by Pte Jessop A.I.F.Australia " dated Sept 30th 1917
It wasn't until my Husband started doing Ancestry that we started investigating Victor Jessop as a Soldier in England and looked it all up it turns out he was Stationed at Weymouth / Chickrell in Devon,
I can remember my mother telling me stories of During the great war ,her Mother used to do washing for the Soldiers in the Army Camp just up the road , and She Mary used to collect and deliver the washing to the Camp She then only being 14- 15 years old must have struck up a friendship with Victor 23-25 years old, It must have been very special for her to have Cherished this book all those years, Must have been about 1965 when she gave it to me and by the time i reconized its importance it was too late to question her My husband did look for his Family but all he found out that he had died unmarried, so that was the end of the story,
Not until today have we found that he did have Brothers & sisters and the Family survives, which is lovely as this Memory and Book means the World to me and my family
