Cedric John joined the Armed forces 22-April-1940 and was assigned the Service number N73682 where he joined the 33rd Fortress Coy. He was promoted to Corporal during this initial time.
On 4-July-1941 Cedric joined the Special forces raised for service abroad and was assigned the Service number NX38660 and retained the rank of Corporal. The 10 December 1941 his section the 2/1st Fortress Section Engineers A.I.F. Embarked for service overseas.
On 22 April 1942 he was reported Missing and it was not until 5 Aug 1943 that he was confirmed a Prisoner or War. Cedric was captured in Timor and sent to Changi and enslaved to work the Burma Railway. The American forces liberated Cedric from a coalmine near Nagasaki Japan in October 1945.
Cedric returned to Australia and discharged from the Army on 8 Jan 1946.
