Arrived in Tasmania 29-Sep-1854 aboard the Caroline Middleton captained by William Alcock Worked as a farm hand in an orchard until he left Tasmania for Ballarat to try his hand in the diggings around 1866. After little success he moved onto Sydney 1869 and became a wholesale fruiterer, eventually establishing Thomas Jessep & Sons. Foundation Member and first chairman of the New South Wales Fruit Exchange Co-operative Company. He was the Commissioner of Melbourne Centennial Exhibition in 1888. Joined the Loyal Orange Institution in 1870 and was Grand Secretary of Grand Lodge from 1883 - 1885.
