Alfred Donald enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force, Service Number N90614 on 13-Jun-1918. Captain Stanley Spain sent a letter to his mother Marion Jessep at 193 Cowper St Waverley on the 30 Jun 1918 to verify the age of Alfred. This letter noted that his Father was on active service. AIF documents show that Alfred was discharged in October 1918.

A letter in his Army file dated 8th Oct 1918, from Mr Bruce McDonald B.M. Confirms that Alfred was a Drum Major for 22nd Batn champion Cadet Band. The Letter was sent while he was enlisted in the army asking permission for a days leave to attend a Red Cross function where the Band was to Play. There was no answer attached to the file. We hope that Alfred was permitted to attend.

Royal Australian Navy, Record of service for Petty Officers and Men show that Alfred enlisted 27-Nov-1918 official number 6978 as the Date of Entry. The only other document in this file appears to be his posting record. The Last entry was 15 Aug 1921 to 20 Oct 1921 Stoker. Sadly the rest of this page is impossible to read. The process stamp also hard to read notes reference 23762 on the 28 Nov 1956.

The photo shows he received two medals. You will notice that on his right side is his father's MBE. The uniform indicates that he was a member of a Fire Brigade. The Electoral Roll of 1930 and 1933 shows that he was living in Waverley and noted as a Fireman.

The photo must have been taken after his father died (Aug 1927) which would match up with the Electoral roll dates however the electoral roll in 1949 notes him as a Fitter's Assistant.

It is not known which medals he was presented as this is not in the Military records found to date.
If anyone can provide this detail it would be great to complete this record.
