I was born in Valesco private Hospital, Wollongong on Wednesday the 18 April 1923. The Sydney Morning Herald sold for 1 Penny.

I joined the RAAF on 29 May 1941 and was posted to PNG for a part of the war. On my discharge from the RAAF on 10 July 1946 I was a Sergeant. During my service in PNG I injured my back by lifting a jeep to help in changing the flat tyre. As part of my service I was awarded the 1939/45 Star the Pacific star.

I married the love of my life Beryl May Jordan on 11 Aug 1945 in Gympie. We returned to Sydney where we were to settle down and raise our family. We had a small flat at 11 Botany St Bondi Junction and purchased a block of land and paid a deposit to a builder but unfortunately the builder went broke and we lost our deposit. By this time we have a beautiful daughter Lorraine with another on the way. After Dennis was born we moved to Manly in Brisbane Queensland. I began work at the Wynnum Telephone exchange and started again to build a new life in Queensland.

We were very happy here and Beryl worked to build a wonderful garden in our new home. We made several extensions to the house over the years and Beryl's mother and Father moved an old Queenslander onto the block next to us at 12 Allara st Manly. Sadly Beryl's father died and her mother took this very hard. We decided to expand our family and William was born. He was named after Beryl's father.

Part of my work in the PMG required me to witness documentation so I became a Justice of the Peace on the 11 January 1963. This later became known as Commissioner for declarations.

I was always interested in Radio an I eventually passed my Novice exam on the 15 May 1979 and received my limited licence 3 Jul 1979. My call sign was VK4 NWW. I also joined the local Masons but I can't tell you any more about that.

After I retired from the PMG I became an MSS security guard and spent some time guarding the old Powerhouse at New Farm in Brisbane and later moved to the Gibson Island Fertiliser plant.
