My father was the schoolmaster at Mt Morgan when I was born. Later our family moved to Charters Towers. I joined the Women's Australian Auxiliary Air Force where I met my future husband Donald James Jessep. On the 13 Jul 1945 I was discharged from the WAAAF and began organising my wedding. Donald was due to arrive back from Service in Borneo and the plan was to be married in Gympie on 11 August 1945. The headlines of the Brisbane paper had a wonderful wedding present "WAR Over" . This made the wedding day a little more challenging as there was almost no transport for us to leave on our honeymoon.
We left Queensland for Sydney where Don had a Job lined up as a Technician for the Post Master General (PMG). All was going well and we started a family soon after arriving in Sydney. On Sunday 19 May during a Storm reported in the Sydney Morning Hearld "Tornado Force" Lorraine May arrived making us very happy in deed.
House plans were made and a loan obtained when disaster happened. Our builder went bankrupt and we lost our dream house. By this time our family had grown to two. Lorraine and Dennis.
With no prospect of getting our money back or a house in Sydney we moved back to Brisbane and were able to purchase a small new home in Manly. Don was able to transfer his job to the local Wynnum PMG exchange. Over the years we added extensions to the house. My mother and Father moved an old Queenslander on the land beside us at Manly. The area was growing rapidly despite being some distance from the main city centre of Brisbane.
Following the death of my father in Aug 1954 our family grew again with the arrival of William named after him.
I was diagnosed in 1969 as a diabetic.
